NATA conference at Concordia, 2008More than 75 art teachers from across the state of Nebraska gathered at Concordia University, Nebraska on Oct. 17 and 18 for the Nebraska Art Teacher Association fall conference.  Concordia's art faculty members each conducted workshops and offered practical ideas for the classroom.

“It was great to have them here,” said Kurt Bergdolt, associate professor and main Concordia liaison for the workshop- and presentation-filled conference. “The association is aware of our history of educating great artists and art educators, and they realize how many of our students stay to teach right in Nebraska.”

Tom Lang, printmaker, papermaker and art department chair at Webster University, St. Louis, Mo., was the keynote speaker. His presentation entitled “What is paper without a little mystery?” covered some of his working style, philosophy and approach to his large, three-dimensional cast works of paper.

The two-day event also included an art exhibition with entries from Nebraska teachers juried by Professor Emeritus William Wolfram, a celebration banquet of the NATA’s 85 years and a tour of the Robert Duncan estate just outside Lincoln.
