Tigers knock off Bulldogs in 10-inning thriller

Concordia's Nicole Baker slides safely into second base in an April 22 game versus Doane CollegeThe Concordia University softball team clinched the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular-season championship on Monday, but was bounced from the conference tournament Friday after its second loss.

Entering as the tournament's No. 1 seed, Thursday brought fierce competition from Hastings College and Northwestern, with Northwestern getting the best of the Bulldogs in a 10-inning game. Dana fell to the Bulldogs in the nightcap game. It was Dana's second loss in the double-elimination tournament.

On Friday the Bulldogs needed to get past Doane to move forward. The Tigers put an end to Concordia's conference tournament hopes in a 10-inning thriller.  The Bulldogs now wait to see what seed they will earn for the NAIA Region III championship tournament, which will be played May 8-9 in Sioux City, Iowa.

GPAC tournament updates

Thursday 

Game one: The Concordia University softball team picked up a dramatic 9-8 victory in its first-round matchup with Hastings College.

Game two: The Bulldogs fell in game two 2-1 in ten innings to Northwestern (Iowa) as the Red Raiders were able to push across the winning run in the top of the tenth inning.

Game three: In the third game of the day the Bulldogs were able to on track offensively as they defeated Dana 7-1 to eliminate the Vikings.

Friday

Game four: Concordia softball team took an 11-8 loss and was eliminated from the conference tournament on Friday afternoon by Doane College.  Bulldog pitching staff was touched up for 11 runs on 17 hits as the Tigers roared back from an 8-3 fourth inning deficit.
