WBB: Concordia stomps Concordia-Ann Arbor at the Concordia Invitational Tournament

Concordia University exploded for 48 points in the second half and pulled away for a convincing 79-45 win over Concordia University-Ann Arbor in the first round of the 59th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament.  The Bulldogs improved to 15-8 on the season and advanced to Saturday’s championship game.

Both teams got off to tough starts offensively in the opening half of play.  Turnovers and cold shooting plagued both squads, but a late run gave the Bulldogs a 31-21 lead heading into halftime. 

The Bulldogs extended the lead early in the second half.  Concordia scored eight straight points to open the half to take a 39-21 lead with just over 17 minutes remaining in the game.  It took Concordia-Ann Arbor almost four minutes to score their first bucket of the second half.  Concordia’s depth and defense continued to wear down the Cardinals, and the Bulldogs pulled away for the easy win. 

Concordia was 28-of-57 from the field in the win for 49.1 percent.  The Bulldogs went 8-of-20 from three point land for 40 percent and 15-of-20 at the foul line for 75 percent.  The Bulldog defense forced CU-Ann Arbor into 27 turnovers in the game.  The Cardinals went 17-of-23 at the charity stripe for 73.9 percent, but were 0-of-10 from behind the three point line in the loss. 

Angela Kuca hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points to lead the way for the Bulldogs in the win.  Raegan Broadie added 11, and Brittany Johnson scored eight off the bench.  Stacy Scheer and Katie Rich scored seven points apiece in a balanced scoring attack for Concordia. 

Hannah Sabol had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for Concordia-Ann Arbor.  Kortni Elsworth added 10 points for the Cardinals. 

Concordia will face Concordia University-Wisconsin in Saturday’s championship game.  The Bulldogs will look to win the CIT for a third straight year.  The tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Mequon.  Fans unable to attend can catch a live webcast at the following link.
