Concordia’s Porter Birtell has been named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in two Bulldog wins last week.
Birtell, a freshman from Madison, averaged 19 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week as the Bulldogs defeated Dana College and Dordt College.
He scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds in Concordia’s 70-59 win over Dana College. He added 17 points and a game-high nine boards as Concordia held off Dordt College by the score of 83-75 on Saturday. For the week, he was 14-of-22 from the field and 10-of-14 at the foul line.
So far this season, Birtell ranks second on the team with 12.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. He has connected on 77-of-132 shots from the field for a team-best 58.3 percent.
Concordia is 11-6 overall on the season and 6-2 in GPAC play. The Bulldogs travel to Nebraska Wesleyan on Jan. 13 for an 8 p.m. contest against the Prairie Wolves. Fans unable to attend can catch all the action on the radio (AM 1240 KFOR) or online at www.kfor1240.com.
