Hastings College earned a 71-61 men’s basketball win over Concordia on Wednesday evening. The Broncos improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the GPAC with the win. Concordia dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the GPAC with the loss.
The Bulldogs got off to a great start and led 8-2 early on. The Broncos quickly battled back and closed the first half on a 10-3 run to take a 32-25 lead into halftime.
Concordia rallied early in the second half to take a 43-42 lead. Hastings responded with an 11-0 run to take a 53-43 lead. The Bulldogs pulled within four at 59-55, but the host Broncos pulled away for the 71-61 victory.
Hastings College was 25-of-65 from the field on the evening. The Broncos were 10-of-21 from the three point line and 11-of-15 from the free throw line. Concordia connected on just 19-of-56 shots from the field in the loss. The Bulldogs were 8-of-25 from the three point line and just 15-of-27 from the free throw line.
Derek Fletcher led the way for Hastings with a game-high 20 points. Waid Vontz and Jake Marvin each added 13 points, and Jeremiah Slough delivered 10 for the Broncos.
Porter Birtell scored a team-high 19 points for Concordia. Ryan Railey added 18 points, and Sam Huebner scored 13 for the Bulldogs.
Concordia hosts Northwestern College on Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Health, Human Performance and Athletic Center.
