Concordia University head women’s soccer coach Rob Giesbrecht has announced that Jamie Sanchez will join the Bulldog program for the 2010 season. Sanchez played for the past two seasons at the University of Nebraska and will have two years of eligibility for the Bulldogs.
“We are thrilled to add Jamie to our program,” said Giesbrecht. She is a tremendous athlete, and she will immediately impact our team. Jamie brings a lot of qualities to our program. She is very athletic and competitive with an outstanding work ethic. She is a very gifted soccer player.”
Sanchez, a graduate of Lincoln Lutheran High School, appeared in 11 total games for the Huskers over the past two years after redshirting in 2007. She was the 2007 Lincoln Star City Sports Youth Athlete-of-the-Year. Also in 2007, Sanchez was a Lincoln Journal Star first team All-State and Super-State team selection.
“From what I’ve seen, the girls play really hard and the coaching style seems to fit me pretty well,” commented Sanchez. “I’m excited to play, and I’m ready to make an impact. Hopefully we can take this program to new heights.”
Sanchez was also a four-year starter for the Victory club team in Lincoln. She helped her team to State Cup runner-up finishes in 2002, 2003 and 2006, and State Cup titles in 2004 and 2005.
“Jamie had a very successful high school and club career and has spent three years with an exceptional university soccer program,” noted Giesbrecht. “She comes to Concordia with a hunger to contribute, and I am confident that she will have two very successful years here. I’m really looking forward to coaching Jamie and seeing the positive effect she has on our program.”
Concordia finished the 2009 season with a record of 7-10-2 overall with a 5-7 mark in GPAC play.
