MBB: Bulldogs suffer 88-74 loss to Life University in Lindenwood Classic

Life University earned an 88-74 men’s basketball win over Concordia University in the Lindenwood Classic Tournament on Friday evening.  Life improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Concordia slipped to 2-2 on the year with the loss. 

Life jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and controlled play for much of the first half.  Life led by as many as 13 in the opening half, but Concordia closed the gap and trailed by just six at 35-29 at halftime. 

The Running Eagles put another run together early in the second half to pull away from the Bulldogs.  Life led by as many as 25 in the final half and settled for the 88-74 win. 

Life University held a 32-28 advantage in point in the paint and a 29-20 advantage in points off turnovers.  The Running Eagles also had 16 fast break points compared to just two for Concordia.  Life hit 32-of-64 shots in the game for an even 50 percent.  The Running Eagles hit 11-of-26 from the three point line and also connected on 13-of-15 free throw attempts in the game. 

Concordia hit 23-of-52 shots for 44.2 percent.  The Bulldogs went just 7-of-25 from the three point line and 21-of-31 at the free throw line in the loss. 

Greg Brown had a game-high 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field to lead Life University.  Bryant Dunn, James Hooper and Ken Moore all had 13 points, and JaQuan Bray added 12 points for the Running Eagles. 

Porter Birtell had a team-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds for Concordia in the loss.  Ryan Shrum and Dustin Weber added 12 points apiece for the Bulldogs. 

Concordia returns to action with a 6 p.m. contest against No. 1 Robert Morris University on Saturday.
