Ben Klein received conference and national honors on Monday for his efforts in Concordia’s 28-12 homecoming win over Dordt College over the weekend. Klein was selected as the Great Plains Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and also earned NAIA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Klein, a sophomore safety from Dallas, Texas, totaled six solo and four assisted tackles as the Bulldogs improved to 2-4 on the season. He also added two interceptions and 3.5 tackles for loss in the game, and his third-quarter interception led to a Bulldog score.
“As a team, we could not be more excited for Ben,” said Vance Winter, head coach for the Bulldogs. "Ben had a great week of practice preceding the game Saturday and carried that performance onto the field. Ben works extremely hard, and he continues to progress as a football player."
For the season, Klein leads the Bulldog defense in total tackles with 39. He also leads the team in tackles for loss (6.0) and is tied for the team lead with his two interceptions.
Concordia, 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the GPAC, travels to No. 5 Morningside College on Saturday in a Great Plains Athletic Conference contest starting at 1 p.m.
