No. 1 Sioux Falls 80, Concordia University 0 (view stats)
The top-ranked University of Sioux Falls football team dominated Concordia 80-0 on Saturday afternoon in Seward. The Cougars improved to 4-0 on the season and have now won 18 straight games. Concordia dropped to 1-3 on the year with the loss.
Sioux Falls jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Ryan Lowmiller. With just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter, USF quarterback Lorenzo Brown connected with Alex Anderson on a 33-yard touchdown pass to give the visiting Cougars a 14-0 lead.
The Cougars pulled away with 28 points in the second quarter. Lorenzo Brown capped an 88-yard drive with his sixth touchdown run of the year to give USF a 21-0 lead. On the next drive for Concordia, USF’s Trevor Holleman picked off a pass by Kyle Schmidt and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to increase the Sioux Falls lead to 28-0. With just under two minutes remaining in the first half of play, the Cougars took a 35-0 lead on the second rushing touchdown of the day by Ryan Lowmiller. After another Concordia punt, Sioux Falls used seven plays to march 63 yards in just 46 seconds. Brown connected with Nick Ramstad on a 16-yard touchdown pass to give the Cougars a 42-0 lead heading into halftime.
Sioux Falls opened the second half with a quick score to take a 49-0 lead on Kristian Porter’s 20-yard touchdown run. The only other points in the third quarter came via a 25-yard field goal by USF’s Braden Wieking, which gave the Cougars a 52-0 lead after three quarters of play.
Sioux Falls continued to pile it on with 28 more points in the fourth quarter. Ismael Small had a 12-yard touchdown run to increase the USF lead to 59-0. Michael Frericks added another score on a 58-yard interception return to give the Cougars a 66-0 lead. USF’s Mitch Dunbar had a 5-yard touchdown run and a 12-yard touchdown run to finish off the scoring for the Cougars.
Sioux Falls totaled 706 yards of offense in the game. The Cougars had 377 yards on the ground and 329 yards through the air. USF had 40 first downs in the game and ran 85 plays compared to 45 plays for Concordia. The Sioux Falls defense was very impressive as well. USF held Concordia to just two first downs, and the Bulldogs gained just 58 yards of total offense on the day.
Lorenzo Brown completed 19-of-24 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way offensively for Sioux Falls. Brown also had four rushes for 50 yards and a score for the Cougars. Kristian Porter had six carries for 96 yards and a touchdown to lead the USF rushing attack, while Ismael Small carried the ball nine times for 73 yards and a score. Alex Anderson led the USF receivers with six catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Concordia will travel to Northwestern College next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Orange City.
