The Concordia University cross country teams had solid performances at the Woody Greeno Invitational on Saturday at Pioneer Park in Lincoln.  The Concordia men finished third overall with a team score of 106 and were also third in the college division.  The Concordia women finished in sixth overall with a team score of 183, and were also third in the college division.     

In the men’s race, Colorado School of Mines (42) finished first overall with the University of Central Missouri (97) in second.  Concordia finished in third, while the University of Nebraska (111) and Nebraska-Kearney (222) rounded out the top five. 

Concordia senior Zach Meineke was the top finisher for the Bulldogs.  Meineke crossed the line in ninth place overall with a time of 25:29.65.  Dana Schmidt was 14th overall with a time of 25:42.40.  David Goeglein (25:56.75) was 21st, Colin Morrissey (26:03.20) was 28th and Tyson Billings (26:13.85) finished in 34th for the Bulldogs.  The sixth and seventh finishers for Concordia were Jon Grotefendt (26:52.30) in 54th and Zane Grabau (27:15.75) in 77th.

The University of Nebraska won the women’s race with an overall team score of 32, and Wichita State University was second with a team score of 59.  Wartburg College (140) was third, the University of South Dakota (154) was fourth and Nebraska Wesleyan University rounded out the top five with a 165 to finish just in front of Concordia. 

For the second week in a row, freshman Sarah Kortze led the way for the Concordia women.  Kortze finished in 21st overall with a time of 21:58.08.  Jena Schwalenberg was 26th with a time of 22:18.28.  Alicia Marteney (22:33.78) was 32nd, Ann Hershberger (22:59.63) was 49th and Dana Kluthe (23:05.68) was 55th.  Other top finishers for the Bulldogs included Taylor Felix (23:18.08, 65th overall) and Hannah Ferry (23:26.48, 72nd overall).

Concordia will compete at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota on Sept. 26.
