Benedictine College, ranked No. 19 in the preseason, earned a 2-0 win over Concordia in women’s soccer on Saturday evening in Atchison, Kan.  Benedictine moved to 1-0 on the season with the win, while Concordia slipped to 1-1 on the year with the loss.

Despite the loss, Concordia head coach Rob Giesbrecht came away impressed with the effort of his team.  “Benedictine is one of the best teams in the area, but our girls never quit,” said Giesbrecht.  “We gave great effort throughout the game, and I’m very excited about our progress.”

The game remained scoreless for most of the first half. It wasn’t until the 38th minute when Courtney Danze scored to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead, and Kelsey Mueller added a goal off of a corner kick with less than three minutes later for Benedictine.

Ariel Harris had a solid effort in goal for Concordia. She totaled 11 saves for the day. Kali Lane led Concordia with two shots in the loss.

Concordia returns to action with a road game at Sterling College on Sept. 1.  The first home game for the Bulldogs will be Sept. 5 when they host McPherson College in a 5 p.m. contest at Bulldog Stadium.
