The Concordia University men's tennis team eked out a 5-4 victory over the Hastings College Broncos Wednesday afternoon in Seward, Neb.
The most competitive match of the day was in the No. 1 singles match as Hastings' Will Hotz defeated Concordia's Jeremy Jank in a tiebreaker. Hotz took set one, 7-5, before Jank came back to win set two 6-4. Hotz finished the match with a 10-6 victory in the tiebreaker.
The Broncos' Tyler Benson cruised past Concordia's Jon Schleicher 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles action. The Bulldogs' Scott Schlesinger picked up the first victory for Concordia 6-1, 4-6,10-8 over Travis Bronson in No. 3 singles. In No. 4 singles, Hastings' Chris Ondrey defeated Concordia's Marcus Herrings 6-4, 6-7,12-10. Concordia picked up two victories in No.5 singles, when Ryan Duerr defeated Grant Nagaki and in No. 6 singles, as Kyle Winter defeated Andrew Huber.
In doubles action the team of Hotz and Benson defeated Concordia's tandem of Jank and Schleicher 8-3. The Bulldogs secured the team victory, winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles contests, as the teams of Schlesinger and Kaldahl along with Herring and Winter defeated the Broncos' teams 8-6 and 8-5 respectively.
The Bulldogs are now 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the GPAC. Hastings falls to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC. Next action for the Bulldogs comes April 15, when the Tigers of Doane College come to Seward, Neb., for a match set to begin at 4 p.m.
