The Concordia University baseball team dropped a tough double header to the University of Sioux Falls Cougars to kick off their 2009 GPAC baseball season at Plum Creek Park in Seward, Neb. Saturday afternoon. Sioux Falls held off the Bulldogs for a 13-11 game one victory before cruising in game two 12-4.

With the Bulldogs leading 4-2 going into the top of the fifth of game one, Sioux Falls struck for eight runs, chasing Concordia starter John Couch from the game. The Bulldogs were able to push across seven runs in the final three innings but were never able to close the gap against the Cougars.

Couch was tabbed with the loss for the Bulldogs to push his record to 2-2, while Jordan Ahrendt picked up the win for the Cougars as Brandon Compton earned the save for Sioux Falls.

Game two was in the Cougar's control from the outset, touching up starter Jacob Shaffer for six runs (all earned) on six hits as Sioux Falls cruised to the 12-4 victory. Jamie Dillard led the Bulldog offense going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Shaffer was tagged with the loss for Concordia to run his record to 0-4, while Tom Murtha earned the win for Sioux Falls.

With the losses Concordia is now 4-16 overall and 0-2 in the GPAC, while Sioux Falls moves to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the GPAC.
