Jason Weides, head men's soccer coach for Concordia University, Nebraska, announced Monday that Eric Fox of Smithville, Mo., has signed a letter of intent to play soccer for the Bulldogs beginning in 2009-10.

Fox brings an impressive resume to the Bulldogs. As a senior Fox was a recent selection to the all-state team for Missouri Class 2 while leading Smithville High School to a 23-2 record and berth in the state quarterfinals. During the 2008 season Fox anchored a defense that allowed just seven goals during a 23-game win streak. As a junior Fox was named to the second team all-state squad for Missouri Class 2 and to the all-region team. In 2007 Fox also garnered first team all-conference and all-district team while leading his team to the MSHSAA Class 2 State Championship game.

"Eric is a very intelligent soccer player," said Weides. "His ability to lead and organize a defensive backline will be a great addition to our team. He quickly closes down the opposition by applying immediate pressure; also Eric can possess the ball well which is the foundation of a good attack. I look forward to Eric's many contributions to our program."

Fox will join a Concordia men's soccer team that finished the 2008 season 6-10-2 overall and 4-6-2 in the GPAC. In 2008 the Bulldogs also advanced to the GPAC's postseason tournament, an accomplishment the team had not made since 2001.
