WSOC: Late goal lifts Cougars

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team finished the 2008 season with a tough loss to the University of Sioux Falls Cougars, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in Seward, Neb.

The Bulldogs started the scoring in the 43^rd minute as Shelley Herman found the back of the net off a feed from Sarah Hoffman to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime intermission.

Sioux Falls evened the game at 1-1 when Tasia Murray beat Bulldog goal keeper, Sara Webb, in the 46^th minute. Just two minutes later Cougar Kaye Donnelly also found the back of the net to give  Sioux Falls the lead, 2-1.

Concordia got the equalizer in the 55^th minute when Mallory Blanck scored on a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. The two teams played equal soccer and looked to be heading into overtime when  a mishandled ball by Webb led to a Kelsey Van Peursem goal with just 14 seconds remaining in the second half and a 3-2 victory for Sioux Falls.

The loss means the Bulldogs end the season with an overall record of 5-12-0 and 3-9-0 in the GPAC while the win helps the Cougars secure a bid in the GPAC postseason tournament with a record of 5-10-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the GPAC.
