The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team finished the 2008 season with a tough loss to the University of Sioux Falls Cougars, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in Seward, Neb.
The Bulldogs started the scoring in the 43rd minute as Shelley Herman found the back of the net off a feed from Sarah Hoffman to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime intermission.
Sioux Falls evened the game at 1-1 when Tasia Murray beat Bulldog goal keeper, Sara Webb, in the 46th minute. Just two minutes later Cougar Kaye Donnelly also found the back of the net to give Sioux Falls the lead, 2-1.
Concordia got the equalizer in the 55th minute when Mallory Blanck scored on a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. The two teams played equal soccer and looked to be heading into overtime when a mishandled ball by Webb led to a Kelsey Van Peursem goal with just 14 seconds remaining in the second half and a 3-2 victory for Sioux Falls.
The loss means the Bulldogs end the season with an overall record of 5-12-0 and 3-9-0 in the GPAC while the win helps the Cougars secure a bid in the GPAC postseason tournament with a record of 5-10-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the GPAC.
