MSOC: Bulldog defense stifles Defenders

Article Body

The Concordia University, Nebraska men's soccer team picked up a huge 1-0 victory Saturday, over the Dordt College Defenders in a defensive struggle at Bulldog Stadium in Seward, Neb.

The two teams failed to make an effective offensive rush throughout the first half and took a 0-0 tie into the halftime intermission.

After halftime the Bulldogs were able to mount an offensive surge that climaxed when Kraig Hein found George Lara Jr. open in the box and Lara was able to beat the Dordt goalkeeper Brain Verwolf for the eventual game winner in the 50th minute.

The Dordt offense had its most significant offensive rush and best scoring opportunity when, with 17 minutes remaining in the second half, the ball squirted through the Bulldogs box and past keeper Alex McKamy. It was a shot that could have easily found the back of the net but instead hit the right post and was subsequently cleared by the Concordia defense.

With the victory the Bulldogs move to 3-5-0 overall and pull even in GPAC play at 2-2-0 while the Defenders fall to 2-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the GPAC.

The Bulldogs will next be in action Saturday, Oct. 4 in Yankton, S.D. with a 1 p.m. meeting with the Mount Marty Lancers.
