WSOC: Mustangs run away from Bulldogs

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team dropped a high-scoring affair to the Morningside College Mustangs, 5-3, Saturday evening in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Mustangs (3-3-0, 1-1-0 GPAC) began the scoring early as Maggie Kukuk found the back of the net in the 9th minute of the first half. Morningside extended the lead to 2-0 as Val Weber connected off a corner kick from Kukuk in the 27th minute.

The Bulldogs (2-5-0, 0-2-0 GPAC) were able to cut the deficit in half as Molly Humlicek buried an unassisted goal in the 35th minute. That would bring Concordia within one at 2-1, a score that would hold for the remainder of the first half.

Morningside's Kate Gross put the game out of reach with goals in the 55th and 77th minutes of the second half. The Mustangs would add another goal by Eukie Okwumuo in the 83rd minute. Concordia was able to answer with two goals as Jordan Meyer found the back of the net unassisted in the 81st minute and again in the 89th minute off a feed from Molly Hein.

Senior goaltender Sara Webb faced a total of 14 shots by Morningside. She was touched up for all five Mustang goals and made three saves on the evening.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 23, against the Doane College Tigers at 5 p.m. in Crete, Neb.
