The Concordia University, Nebraska men's soccer team, fresh off a 15-0 victory against Grace University, could not find the same firepower against the Mount Mercy Mustangs this weekend. The Bulldogs took a 5-3 loss against the Mustangs Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Bulldogs (1-2, 0-0 GPAC) gave up an early goal to Mt. Mercy's Nick Miller, and the Mustangs added another goal six minutes later before Concordia was able to find the back of the net. The Bulldogs' Aaron Skipworth was able to put one past Mt. Mercy's keeper, Gabe Hodge, off an assist from Kyle Neumann to bring the Bulldogs within one. The Mustangs, however, would add another goal before the half to put Concordia down 3-1 at the break.
Concordia scored twice in the second half. Bryan Schranz put in a goal unassisted in the 48th minute and, with five minutes remaining, Kolt O'Kelly scored off an assist from George Lara Jr. Mt. Mercy's offense matched the pace of the Bulldogs, however, finding the back of the net twice in the second frame to put the Bulldogs away 5-3.
The Bulldogs' next match is at home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, against Sterling College.
