Concordia University Athletic Director Grant Schmidt announced today that assistant soccer coach Jason Weides has been elevated to the head coaching position and will be the permanent replacement for the recently resigned Art Busha. Weides had spent the last four seasons as an assistant under Busha A native of Kearney, Neb., Weides' ties to Concordia go back to his own days as a collegiate soccer player. He was a four-year letter winner for the Bulldogs in soccer and was named to the honorable mention all-conference team as a sophomore and was a second team selection as a senior in 2002.
Weides' coaching resume includes serving as an assistant coach at Concordia under former coach Bill Schranz in 2002 before making a stop at Kearney High School where he was an assistant coach from 2003-05, helping the team to its first state tournament appearance since 1998. During Weides' time at Kearney he also was the head coach of the Kearney Sublime club soccer team. He then returned to coach as an assistant at Concordia from 2005-08.
"I could not be more pleased to name Jason as the latest addition to the Bulldog athletic department," said Schmidt. "Jason brings a wealth of experience as a player and coach and is the perfect person to continue the program's growth."
