Signs, Symptoms, and Planning--
Cooler temperatures have arrived and trees are showing a beautiful array of autumn colors. Now is the time to prepare for the season – the flu season that is!
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. Illness can vary from mild to severe, and at times can lead to death.
Flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. A person might also get the flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, eyes or nose. Getting sick with the flu can result in missed school, work, and extra-curricular activities for your student.

The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year. It is recommended that every student receive the seasonal flu vaccine. Vaccines for students with certain long-term health conditions are particularly important because they are at high risk of serious
illness if they get the flu.

Please encourage your student to get the flu vaccine to protect themselves as well as others on Concordia’s campus. Flu vaccines are available at Concordia’s Health Center. Cost is
$20.00. If your student is under 19 years of age, parental consent must be obtained. For medical forms or questions, please contact Heidi in the Health Center at (402) 643-7224 or healthcenter@cune.edu.
