What degrees are offered through the music department?
We offer the B.A., B.S., and B.Mus. in several areas of music. All programs are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music Concordia, Nebraska has the largest number of students majoring in music of any university in the Concordia University System.
What ensembles does Concordia have?
We offer four choirs, two concert bands, two handbell choirs, a jazz ensemble, and numerous chamber ensembles including a brass quintet, percussion ensemble, guitar ensemble, string Ensemble, and woodwind ensembles. Do you have to be a music major to take lessons or participate in ensembles?
No. Any Concordia student is welcome to register for private lessons or to audition for any of the ensembles. The membership of all of our ensembles is made up of a mixture of music majors and non-music majors.
Are music scholarships available?
Yes. Music scholarships are awarded by audition and are available in amounts up to $6,000 per year for music majors and up to $2,000 per year for non-music majors who wish to participate in musical activities at Concordia. These awards are given in addition to any other financial aid from Concordia (for example, academic scholarships). Where do your students come from? Do they find jobs?
About 85 percent of our music majors come from outside Nebraska, and our music graduates are working in over 40 states and several foreign countries. In the past five years, about 86 percent of our music graduates have found full-time work in their major field within three months of graduation or have enrolled in graduate school. We are proud that we far exceed the national average, which is closer to 50 percent (information from the National Association of Colleges and Employers).
