Music Department Profile

Prior to coming to Concordia in 1979, David Held was teacher and director of music at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo, Iowa and at St. John Lutheran Church, Orange, California. In the early 1980s, he served the Missouri Synod by introducing the hymnal Lutheran Worship around the United States. He has been a member of the Synod’s Commission on Worship and chair of the Board for District and Congregational Services; he currently serves on the Board of Regents of Concordia Theological Seminary. In 2000, Dr. Held received the Concordia University award given annually for excellence in teaching; he retired from full-time service at Concordia the same year. He continues to serve as a supervisor of student teaching.
