FROM: Faculty Marshals

RE:
Graduation 2008 weekend activities/Baccalaureate and Commencement

This memo is to serve as a reminder to faculty and an invitation to professional/technical staff that have administrative or teaching responsibilities to participate in the baccalaureate service and graduation commencements.

A baccalaureate service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. We will not wear academic vestments this year nor will we sit together, process and recess. Faculty and professional/technical staff will participate as part of the congregation, sitting among the families and friends of the graduates. To be guaranteed seating, please arrive early. As in previous years, the chancel party will assemble in the Centennial Room at 7:10 p.m.

A reception will follow the baccalaureate service in the St. John Fellowship Hall.

Commencement services are scheduled for Saturday, May 10, at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., in the Gym of the PE Building. Academic vestments will be worn.

All faculty and participating professional/technical staff should meet in the TLEC rooms 101 and 105 to don vestments, then line up for the processional by 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. In the event of inclement weather (rain, snow, etc), we will meet in the PE classroom. For commencement, men will remove hats only for the invocation, prayer, national anthem and benediction.

A reception honoring faculty, honorees and the 50th anniversary high school and college class will be held between commencement services from 9-10 a.m. in the TLEC Main Street area. Please stop in to visit with these honorees and enjoy refreshments together.

The graduates will attend a rehearsal in the PE building on Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m. If you have specific duties at graduation you should attend this rehearsal.

If you do not plan to participate in graduation, please inform Sue Jensen at extension 7228. Faculty should also send a written request for excused absence to Provost Jenny Mueller-Roebke.

From the alumni office:

Faculty members are invited to the continental breakfast hosted by the Concordia Alumni Association on Saturday, May 10, between commencement services in the Mainstreet area of TLEC. Special guests are members of the 50th reunion class of 1958 and emeriti faculty and spouses.
