Access to Blackboard at Concordia
Blackboard CE6 (new, for Fall 2007 courses)
WebCT 4 (old, for current courses)
Blackboard is Concordia's web-based course management system.
Schedule maintenance time: Sunday morning from 6am until 11:30am is reserved for Blackboard maintenance and backup activity. Blackboard may be unavailable during this time and may be taken down without warning.
Note: We STRONGLY suggest that you do not bookmark pages inside Blackboard or WebCT (any page past this page). We do not guarantee that the URL of any internal page will remain constant. ALWAYS get to Blackboard or WebCT by going through THIS page.
Almost all problems reported by users of Blackboard/WebCT fall into three categories:
- Users are running "popup blockers". Several tools inside Blackboard/WebCT, including chat rooms, use popups. Please disable your popup blocker(s) before running Blackboard/WebCT.
- Users are running firewalls which interfere with Blackboard/WebCT functions. You may need to configure your firewall to allow Blackboard/WebCT to function properly. (Open these TCP ports to webct.cune.edu, webct2.cune.edu and blackboard.cune.edu: 2217, 4445 (chat), 4567 (whiteboard)).
- Make sure your username and password are entered with proper case. E.g. John.Doe rather than john.doe.
In addition, please check out "Check Browser" in the upper-left menu bar on the Blackboard/WebCT login page. This will take you to a "Browser Tuneup" page that will lead you through all the required settings for your browser.
If you continue to have problems please email the Help Desk.
Blackboard CE6
Blackboard CE6 is the new version of WebCT (our old version is WebCT Version 4.1) with a new look and many new features.
Documentation
The following manuals and tutorials are available. Note that these items are only available from on-campus Concordia computers from these links (on our public website). Faculty may access these same items from anywhere by using the "Blackboard CE6 for Faculty" course that each of you have inside Blackboard.
- Designer and Instructor Reference Manual (PDF)
- Upgrade Manual (PDF). Information about migrating courses. Chapter 1, Becoming Familiar with CE 6, will be helpful to everyone. The other chapters may or may not be applicable, depending on how a particular course is migrated.
- How do I...? Tutorials. Your first step in familiarizing yourself with Blackboard CE6 should be to work through these tutorials.
- Migration Tutorials These tutorials explore some of the options for migrating a course. Note that we will work with individual faculty to assist in working through course migration.
- Tutorials for Students. We will eventually make these tutorials available for students.
If you have questions about Blackboard CE6 or WebCT 4 please send email to Blackboard@cune.edu. or contact Don Sylwester, Kent Einspahr or Marcile Brehmer
