Concordia's final performances of Kiss Me Kate were given this weekend. After listening to the such hits as "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" and "It's Too Darn Hot," the audience on Saturday evening also heard several surprise tributes to the show's director, Dr. Mira Wiegmann, professor of theatre arts.
The play was Wiegmann's last directorial project at Concordia, capping a 23-year career of 34 full-length plays and numerous smaller productions and one-acts. The significance of her career was recognized in a commendation read Saturday on behalf of the university that declared that no other individual has had as powerful an influence on theatre at Concordia. Wiegmann's personal influence was also evident in the tributes read to the audience from past student actors.
"I don't know what it will be like to close the doors for the last time," said Wiegmann in an earlier interview, "but I do know that I will have years and years of happy memories of working with actors that will never go away."
