Midland Lutheran def. Haskell, 71-56
Boxscore Seward, Neb. – Midland Lutheran College came from behind to defeat Haskell Indian Nations, 71-56, on the final day of the Seventh Annual Cattle Classic sponsored by the Cattle National Bank and Trust Co., and Concordia University, Nebraska.
Haskell never trailed in the first half as Midland (7-0, 1-0 GPAC), struggled from beyond the arc, going 0 for 6.
Midland went on a 14-6 run to open the second half, taking their first lead of the game on a put back by Ashley Bruegman with 15:22 remaining. From that point the Warriors of Midland Lutheran scored six more unanswered to push their lead to seven, they never trailed again.
Bruegman finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists to pace the Warriors. Karmen Jericevic also reached double figures, finishing with 12 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Liz Sneed dished out three assists, scored six points and grabbed six rebounds.
Melissa Haag of Haskell led all scorers with 21 points, including three three-point field goals. Whitney Warrior added 14 points and five rebounds. As a team Haskell shot 42.9 percent from the field in the first half, but struggled in the second half as Midland limited them to just 25.0 percent in the second frame.
