FULL-TIME ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

Director of Graduate Secondary Teacher Certification

Position Summary:  The Director of Graduate Secondary Teacher Certification is the primary advocate, administrator and student advisor for the Teacher Certification masters degree program. In addition, the director works closely with the dean of the CGS to schedule courses; identify/nominate, mentor and evaluate instructors for the program; and conduct ongoing academic assessment, implementing program improvements as they become advisable. In addition, the director works closely with Concordia's Graduate Admission Department to recruit potential students for the Graduate Secondary Teacher Certification Program. Concordia expects program directors fully to espouse and model the CGS accents on a Christ-centered education delivered in an academically rigorous, highly relational environment.

Classification:  Faculty; Full time; 12 months w/benefits

Reports To:  Dean of the College of Graduate Studies (CGS)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of masters degree plus 5 year's experience with graduate teacher certification program; doctorate preferred;
  • Proven interest and demonstrated ability in curriculum development, program assessment, and improvement;
  • Strong leadership skills,  interpersonal proficiency, and the ability to mentor professionals effectively;
  • Commitment to innovative, student-focused program delivery that explores, assesses, and looks for ways to improve learning outcomes;
  • Demonstrated success in developing, recruiting and administering similar or like programs in higher education.

General Duties:

  • Carry responsibility for designing, implementing, assessing and supervising rigorous curriculums that address the standards of CUNE, the LCMS; learned societies; and state, regional and national accrediting agencies;
  • Partner with Graduate Admission Department to develop and implement processes for recruiting and retaining students for the program;
  • Assist in screening students admitted to the program;
  • Serve as chief advisor for students in the program, working with individuals and groups of students to ensure the highest levels of student engagement, learning, and satisfaction;
  • Teach program courses as assigned;
  • Suggest, supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty who teach in the program;
  • Assist the dean in orienting new faculty;
  • Monitor and control spending within budgetary guidelines;
  • Monitor sites in conjunction with the Graduate Dean so that no cohort starts at fewer students than required for break-even tuition revenue;
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with local, regional, and national institutions and agencies;
  • Work with the dean and other CUNE faculty to complete the necessary procedures for accreditation;
  • Represent the program to the Graduate Council and the College of Education in a manner which makes evident the mission-directedness and excellence of CUNE's Lutheran higher education ministry.
  • Represent CUNE at national, district and synodical events and provide in-service for Lutheran and public schools as available and advisable;
  • Grow professionally through ongoing personal reading, research, and/or attendance at national, local, synodical and learned society meetings; and
  • Encourage a program of professional growth promoting academic excellence, teamwork and regular and purposeful communication.

Associate Provost

Position Summary:  The Associate Provost provides visionary leadership for the graduate, adult education and outreach programs of the University, including oversight of off-site education and extension campuses, curriculum development and delivery, program evaluation, faculty and academic administration; has primary responsibility for ongoing strategic planning for the University; with the Provost, shares responsibility for accreditation of all programs of the University; develops, coordinates and maintains relationships with internal and external constituencies; serves as a member of the President's Cabinet.

Classification:  Executive Administrative Faculty; 12 mos position with full-time benefits

Reports To:  Provost 

                         President & CEO (on matters of strategic planning)

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Adult Education Administration or related field required.
  • Minimum 10 years of successful college-level teaching and experience in higher education administration/leadership required.
  • Experience with the successful development of curriculum at the course and programmatic level.
  • Experience with academic program review and accreditation standards.
  • Experience in successfully developing and implementing a strategic plan and conducting assessments of student outcomes and program evaluations.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership and ability to begin new or expand current offerings.
  • Network of professional contacts within The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
  • Member in good standing of a congregation of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

General Duties:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the graduate and adult education programs of the University, including graduate, certification and endorsement, colloquy, degree completion, and continuing education programs and seek to integrate these programs with the goals, vision and mission of the University.  Includes leadership in planning and coordinating academic programs, faculty training and development, assessment, program review and identifying program needs for curriculum growth and enhancement.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the development of off-site education programs and extension campuses, including program development, recruitment, marketing, accreditation and assessment.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Director of the Degree Completion Program.
  • Actively seek out opportunities for service, innovation, research and advancement of the mission of the University through collaboration and partnerships.
  • Provide leadership for and direct the growth and development of the University's institutes and members of the Institutes Coordinating Council.  The institutes include the Lutheran Institute on Aging and Family, Center for Liturgical Art, Concordia University, Nebraska Center for Rural and Small Town Ministries and Institute for Religious Education.
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation and assessment of strategic planning for the University
  • Assist the Provost in representing and interpreting the academic affairs of the University to the Board of Regents.
  • With the Provost, maintain and assure compliance for all academic programs and activities that are recognized by state, regional and national certifying and accreditation agencies.  Provide oversight for the Higher Learning Commission Self-Study Process.
  • Serve as a member of the President's Cabinet.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with other members of the President's Cabinet and administrative and academic departments to ensure fulfillment of University-wide strategies, goals and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and administration of the budget for assigned areas; direct and forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies, monitor expenditures and keep them within University guidelines.

FULL-TIME ACADEMIC POSITIONS

Full-time Faculty Openings for the Academic Year 2008-09

Currently there are no full-time faculty position openings.
    General Faculty Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses assigned by the Dean of the College and/or Department Chair and approved by the Provost.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned, such as serving on accreditation review committees, serving on safety committees, assisting with chemical hygiene efforts when appropriate, and so forth.
  • Assist with the advisement of students as called upon and maintain regular office hours sufficient to serve students. Keep accurate advisement records.
  • Work with the appropriate administrator when sponsoring and/or participating in student organizations and activities and other extra-curricular activities. Follow university guidelines, policies, and handbooks with regard to extra-curricular activities.*
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Attend faculty, departmental, standing committee, ad hoc committee meetings as called upon.
  • Actively pursue scholarly and academic research activities that are mutually beneficial. All off campus work must be approved in writing by the Provost in advance.
  • Be available to work with colleagues as may be needed.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records as may be reasonably necessary for the proper performance and administration of duties.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to requests from various administrative and service offices regarding the progress of students in classes.
  • Participate in the assessment of student learning as needed by the university or individual department.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses during summer term as called upon.*
  • Notify the Dean of the College and the Provost in writing regarding all off campus travel. Notify the Department Chair and Dean of the College regarding classes missed due to illness.
  • Develop a professional growth plan, including an annual plan for formative evaluation and a tri-annual plan for summative evaluation. Such plans are approved by the Dean of the College and the Provost and filed with the Office of Human Resources.

    *Particulars of these responsibilities are contracted individually unless otherwise specified.

    Except as noted above, applicants should hold an earned Doctorate in a relevant academic area. However, applicants with a Masters Degree and a willingness to pursue a Doctorate may be acceptable. In addition, applicants must have a commitment to the mission of the university and its strategic initiatives.

Position Description: Positions will instruct non-traditional learners in the area of Business, Marketing and Supervision for the Concordia University Degree Completion program. These positions are open in the Columbus, Nebraska area and candidates must be able to teach Tuesday evenings 6 - 10 pm for a period of 6 weeks.
