Adult Education Financial Services Specialist

Position Summary:  This position is responsible for customer service delivery, packaging and is the key point of contact for prospective and current students in the College of Graduate Studies, focusing primarily on the area of student financial aid.  This position requires collaboration with other student financial services and graduate office staff to ensure superior student customer service and also requires cross-training and teamwork in the areas of undergraduate and graduate student financial services.

Classification:  Hourly, 12 month position w/benefits

Reports To:  Director of Business Services

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years experience in Higher Education with a focus on student financial aid and student accounts.
  • 3+ years of customer service responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-wide software systems, particularly Banner.
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications including Microsoft applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing required.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Understanding of customer service principles and generational service needs.
  • Member of an LCMS congregation preferred.

General Duties:

  • In accordance with federal regulations and University policies, guide and assist students with questions and needs related to financial aid.  Provide counseling, issuance of award letters, disbursement of funds, tracking of student progress to determine loan eligibility and provide required information and communication to direct lenders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all student financial services policies and procedures for the College of Graduate Studies (CGS).
  • Ensure data and process integrity by collaborating with student financial services office and personnel and CGS administrative departments and program directors for the continued development of financial aid processes and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain sufficient financial aid website and portal information and materials to provide students with accurate and updated financial aid information.
  • Maintain and keep current all necessary documentation to support student financial aid processes, procedures and policies.
  • Utilize various applications to collect, organize and track all necessary and requested data as relates to student financial services.
  • Learn and develop system and software skills necessary to enhance required financial aid report and assessment.
  • Cross-train with various other financial aid and student financial services departments to provide back-up to support student needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
