Becky Vahle recieves the 2008 Women in Business Award from Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, university presidentBecky Vahle, partner at Cattle National Bank & Trust Company, was awarded the Outstanding Woman in Business Award during a Celebration of Women in Business luncheon at Concordia Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The annual event recognizes the achievements of female business professionals in the greater Seward community. It is co-sponsored by Concordia's Students In Free Enterprise group and Concordia Foundation Inc.

"It is so important for our students to be in contact with outstanding professionals in the field to reinforce what is being taught it the classroom and to learn the intangibles that come through years of experience," said Pete Kenow, president of Concordia Foundation. "Concordia's Women in Business celebration is an intentional effort to do just that."

Vahle is a member of the fifth generation of leadership at Cattle National Bank and Trust. A graduate of Seward High, she attended the University of Nebraska and went on to Clarkson School of Nursing. Before beginning to work at the bank, she was a small business owner of a boys clothing store with a partner, Marilyn Engler. She has now been with the bank for 22 years and is on its board of directors, the management team and is an officer. When asked about her success at the bank, Vahle emphasized the importance of being very involved and her "hands on" approach to business.

She appreciates the advantage of working in Seward and the opportunity to get involved in the lives of customers and the workings of the community. She personally has invested her time and talent in local organizations including the Seward Chamber of Commerce as past president, Seward Ambassadors, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as Treasurer, Seward Foundation as past president, PEO Chapter CC, Seward Optimists, Bluebirds, Cub Scouts, Memorial Library Foundation, American Red Cross Heroes Campaign, and a co-chair for the Concordia/Community Fund Drive.
