MBB: Panthers fall to Bulldogs for second time

The Concordia University, Nebraska men's basketball team downed the York College Panthers, 88-59, on Friday night in non-conference action at the Doghouse in Seward, Neb.

It was the second win in as many meetings for the Bulldogs over York on the young season, as Concordia bettered the Panthers 74-57 on Nov. 1, in York.

Early on York kept things close, but Concordia broke free from an eight all tie with five straight points, back-to-back buckets and a free throw, from senior Dusan Veselinovic. The Bulldog advantage swelled to 17, 44-27, at halftime.

Concordia spent the majority of the first half at the charity stripe, converting on 17-of-23 attempts. In addition, Andy Miner came off the bench in the first half to provide a spark, grabbing 10 rebounds in the opening frame.

Hot shooting carried the Bulldogs in the second half as York was never to cut the lead to less than 14 points. Concordia shot a blistering 75 percent (18-of-24) from the field in the second frame.

Veselinovic and Dustin Weber led the way for a balanced Bulldog attack, each finishing with 17 points. Veselinovic went 7-of-11 from the field in 22 minutes of action, while Weber was 5-of-8 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Tyler Bredehoeft chipped in with nine points and six rebounds. In all, 12 different Bulldogs scored.

Miner was a bucket shy of a double-double, finishing with eight points and a game-high 13 boards, helping Concordia dominate the glass, 44-20.

Two Panthers were in double figures with Dashon Jones leading the way with 21 points and six rebounds. John Bryan chipped in with 13 points. York falls to 0-7 on the season.

Concordia is now 6-1 overall and open conference play this coming Tuesday as they travel to Hastings, Neb., to take on the Hastings College Broncos at 8 p.m.
