The Concordia University, Nebraska women's basketball team capped off a weekend of powerful performances with a dominant 72-59 victory over the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the 2008 Cattle Classic.
The Bulldogs surged to a 22-5 lead just nine minutes into the first half, but with a strong final 11 minutes, the Tigers only trailed by seven (34-27) at halftime.
Concordia began the second half with a 14-2 run powered on three pointers by Melissa Tinkham. Tinkham had missed a majority of the first half with an injury. The Bulldogs' strong play in the post secured the victory as Concordia had 16 second chance points to Iowa Wesleyan's seven.
The Bulldogs were led offensively by Whitney Stichka with 17 points while Tinkham added 15 points. The duo earned all-tournament honors with Stichka taking the most valuable player award. Concordia was led on the boards by Angela Kuca who ripped down 13 rebounds on the afternoon.
Iowa Wesleyan was led by the duo of Heather Larson and Rachel Mitchell who each had 12 points for the Tigers.
With the victory Concordia moves to 4-1 overall and their next game will be on Tuesday, Nov. 18, as they head to Kearney, Neb., to take on the NCAA Div. II University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers.
