International Student Association

College is a time of upheaval for most students, but few understand it better than those who have left not only bedrooms, hometowns and families but also home countries and continents. Concordia University’s International Student Association works to make the adjustment to life in the United States easier and more enjoyable for its many international students.

The International Student Association connects international students with each other and the United States by coordinating entertainment functions, holiday celebrations, trips to cultural events, potlucks and other gatherings. “Adopted” international students who have participated in study abroad programs arranged by Concordia and other students who are culturally interested are also welcome to participate in the association’s activities.

Involvement in the association helps international students become acclimated to new friendships and social life in the United States and gives further opportunities for improving conversational English. International students also improve their English skills through the Conversation Partners program, which pairs an international student with a national student volunteer for language practice.

Members of the association are available to share information, expertise and insight on their cultural experiences with interested groups. Anyone who would like information on the International Student Association or Conversation Partners may contact the group’s sponsor, Dr. Bruce Creed.
