For a moment Weller auditorium at Concordia looked like a theatre from the 1950s. Old school 3-D glasses were necessary to watch the multimedia dance duo of Peter Burr and Christopher Doulgeris of Hooliganship on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Along with the 3-D enhanced video, the pair will be presented "Cartune Xprez," a 70-minute program of short animated videos. The artists included both well-known and emerging animators.
James Bockelman, associate professor of art, was introduced to the group through a colleague at UNL and felt the use of live performance with video and animation would be something new and exciting for his students and others in the community.
Burr and Doulgeris live and work in Portland, Ore., and will be making stops in 22 U.S. states and Toronto, Canada, this fall in what they are calling their "2008 AMRCAN FALL" tour.
The pair formed Hooliganship in 2002, creating performances, videos, music and audience experiences that make use of a profusion of digital information. Collectively, they have collaborated with Frank Zappa and staged major exhibitions at the Whitney Biennial, the MOMA in New York, the Sundance Film Festival and many other institutions throughout the world. They have also released their second DVD collection of live performances and animated shorts.
