Counseling office staff

Rachel Murray is a licensed professional counselor with more than 20 years of mental health experience. Rachel has worked in a wide range of inpatient and outpatient settings including the former eating disorders program at the UNO Med Center in Omaha and Child Guidance Center in Lincoln.

Rachel, who has been at Concordia University since 2000, is available to see students Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays for personal or mental health counseling and consultation.

Steve Blum, Psychologist and Counselor

Dr. Steve Blum is a licensed clinical psychologist. Steve has worked in a variety of mental health settings and has almost three decades of clinical experience. In the past, he has provided services at the Lincoln Regional Center and Valley Hope, a drug and alcohol treatment agency. He also works in private practice in Lincoln where he has been a practitioner for many years. Steve is beginning his third year at Concordia University.

Dr. Blum is available to see students on Tuesdays for personal or mental health counseling, consultation, limited psychological evaluation and drug and alcohol assessment.

Lisa Ashby and Sadie

Sadie, a four year old Labrador retriever, is a trained and certified therapy dog. Her handler is Lisa Ashby, professor of English at Concordia. Sadie and Dr. Ashby visit schools and nursing homes, bringing the calming presence of a dog to institutional settings. They also are part of Noah's Canine Crisis Response Team and Animal-Assisted Crisis Response where they offer emotional and spiritual support to individuals and groups affected by trauma and disaster.

Dr. Ashby is completing a certificate of specialized training in critical incident stress management with emphasis areas in school crisis response and spiritual care in crisis response.

Bernita Krenzke, Administrative Assistant

Bernita serves as administrative assistant and brings to the office experience at both the college and high school level. Bernita and her husband have two daughters and one son-in-law and previously served as missionaries in Liberia, West Africa. Bernita grew up on a homestead in rural Idaho and is a graduate of Concordia University, Nebraska. She will be happy to assist you in scheduling appointments.
