Opportunities for Lutheran schools

Article Body
Spring 2008 IssuesThe latest edition of Concordia's academic journal, Issues, addresses the challenges facing Lutheran schools.

Dan Gehrke, principal at Denver Lutheran High School, suggests in an editorial that a Lutheran school should strive to be seen as the "school of choice" within its community. Lutheran schools, according to Gehrke, also need to be appropriately supported and recognized as "the essential ministry that our Synod has to our youth."

"A couple of hours a week at 'youth group' hardly seems enough to combat the spiritual warfare being launched at our kids," writes Gehrke. "Investing 35-50 hours at a school dedicated to using God’s Word in all aspects of its operation seems far more beneficial—after all, God’s Word is there."

Issues is published three times a year by Concordia's faculty.
