Seniors Brian Klinge and Joshua Miesner are this year's inductees into Concordia's Iota Nu chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.

"These students have demonstrated both musical and academic excellence," said Jeffrey Blersch, chair of the Department of Music, during the induction ceremony. "They also possess qualities which will enable them to achieve distinguished careers in music education, namely personal integrity, leadership, open-mindedness and intellectual stamina."

Klinge, from Dubuque, Iowa, is studying secondary education with a focus in music and history; he will graduate in May 2009. He continues a family tradition with his induction as his sister, Jennifer, was inducted in 2004, the first year of Concordia's Pi Kappa Lambda chapter.

Miesner, from Frohna, Mo., is also in the secondary education program and is majoring in music and English. He will graduate at the end of this semester.

Concordia's Iota Nu chapter is five years old. Its mission is to foster scholarly interest in the theoretical and historical aspects of music, and to stimulate eminent achievement in performance, composition, music education and research. Each year, the music faculty is able to nominate up to 20 percent of the senior class of music majors and up to 10 percent of the junior class of music majors into membership. There are nearly 200 colleges and universities with Pi Kappa Lambda chapters nationwide.
