Six earn NAIA scholar-athlete honors for 2003
Six football players from Concordia earned NAIA scholar-athlete honors for the 2003 season. To qualify, the players must be juniors or seniors who have maintained a 3.5 academic average. Named were:
- Patrick Clark, senior wide receiver from Gothenburg, Neb., who is studying secondary education
- Seth Clemmer, senior defensive lineman from Brandon, Miss., with business administration as his field of study .
- Steven Karner, senior defensive end from St. Louis, Mo., with secondary education as his major.
- Joshua Krueger, senior defensive lineman from Pierce, Neb., who is studying secondary education
- Greg Meyer, junior fullback/tight end from Hoxie, Kan., with secondary education as his major
- Nathan Raabe, junior defensive lineman from Pilger, Neb., who is studying in the field of business administration.
White earned team MVP award for 2003 season
Linebacker Bryan White earned the most valuable player award for the Concordia University football team. The 200-pound senior linebacker from Sutherland, Neb., was credited with 96 tackles, 33 unassisted, in 10 games, including two sacks and 7.5 for losses.
The awards were presented at a banquet honoring the team following a 5-5 season for Coach Courtney Meyer.
Jon Carlson, a sophomore linebacker from Hooper, was named the most inspirational player with the special teams award going to Kenyatta Williams, a freshman kick returner from Chula Vista, Calif. Kirby Rising, a senior wide receiver from Sutherland, earned the offensive MVP award while White took the defensive MVP honors.
Offensive awards went to Terrance Gilliam, 260-pound junior from Lancaster, Texas, for linemen; Williams as rookie and Ben Duetschman, 210-pound freshman from North Platte, as scout.
On the defensive side, the top back award went to Nic Cavalierro, junior strong safety from Mesa, Ariz.; top line award to Nathan Raabe, 230-pound senior from Pilger; rookie award to Patrick Daberkow, freshman defensive back from Madison, and scout award to Tim Leech, sophomore defensive lineman from North Platte.
Gillian named as offensive lineman on All-GPAC team
offensive Player of the Week after scoring three TDs in the final game of the season against Morningside.
