William F. Kuhn

William Kuhn, associate professor and director of instrumental music, brings a rich musical and cultural background to his work at Concordia. At Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois, he studied with such notables as Paul Bunjes, Richard Hillert, Carl Schalk, and Thomas Gieschen. After graduating, he taught music at Luther High School South in Chicago and Hong Kong International School. In Hong Kong, he was also minister of music at the Church of All Nations—Lutheran.
In 1984–85, he was awarded a sabbatical leave to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. There he studied with band legend John Paynter, choral director Robert Harris, and well-known music education philosophers Bennett Reimer and David Elliott. Kuhn returned to Hong Kong in 1985 and remained there until he began his work at Concordia in 1993.
Kuhn has given clinics and workshops throughout the country. During the summer he directs the Seward Municipal Band, one of the oldest such bands in the country. He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the Nebraska Bandmasters Association, and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. In 1985 he was inducted into the Alpha Chapter of the music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda. He is included in Marquis Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who among America’s Teachers.
Dr. Kuhn and his wife Kristine have two children, Michael and Elizabeth.
