The Light of Morning
The University A Cappella Choir's released the CD "The Light of Morning" in December 2006. The CD is available from the
university bookstore.
The Light of Morning is the third CD release in the recent history of the ensemble. "Each new CD is an exciting accomplishment," said Dr. Kurt von Kampen, professor of music and director of the University A Cappella Choir. "I am constantly getting requests for our next CD and it means so much to the students who participate as well as their parents, the campus community and those we perform for around the country."
The 13 tracks on the disc include selections from the repertoire of the past two concert seasons with music representative of the Renaissance to present day. "The diverse mix includes spirituals, Christmas carols, a hymn concerto and Dr. Jeffrey Blersch's original composition based on Ted Kooser's poem "So This is Nebraska," said von Kampen.
References to light recur in several tracks on the CD. The disc title itself was taken from "The Last Words of David," a song by Randall Thompson. It refers to a Biblical passage in the book of Samuel where God is described as the "light of the morning."
