In Thy Sweet Humility
Concordia’s Department of Music has released its latest disc from the University A Cappella Choir, “In Thy Sweet Humility: A Concordia Christmas.”
The disc features familiar carols, anthems and hymns based on the Advent and Nativity of Jesus Christ gathered from the past five years of the annual Christmas at Concordia concert. “We have been considering this project for several years,” said Dr. Kurt von Kampen, associate professor of music and conductor of A Cappella. “Christmas music is such an integral part of the way people celebrate, and we have beautiful music to share.”
Traditional favorites like “We Three Kings” and “Carol of the Bells” are included as well as original compositions by music department faculty members Dr. Jeffrey Blersch and Dr. Joseph Herl. The Chamber Choir, Concordia Singers and the Concordia Brass Quintet are also included in the recordings of selected tracks.
A special feature of the CD is a series of four devotions written by Concordia faculty included in the booklet. The devotions draw from the lyrics of four songs performed each year: “See Amid the Winter Snow,” “A Stable Lamp is Lighted,” “O Savior of Our Fallen Race” and “Where Shepherds Lately Knelt.”
“It is my hope that families will gather to listen or sing with the hymns and read the devotions as they prepare themselves for the celebration of the birth of the Savior,” said von Kampen.
