Concordia presents Musical Arts Day concert at Lied Center
More than 130 high school musicians participated in the 10th annual Musical Arts Day presented by Concordia. The two-day event concluded with a concert at the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Nov. 3.
All high school participants went through an audition process to become a part of the honor choir or honor band that performed with Concordia's A Cappella Choir, the Chamber Choir and the University Wind Ensemble in concert.
"Those selected from the audition tapes are able to rehearse with other skilled musicians, work closely with college music students and professors and experience some of life at a university," said Dr. Kurt von Kampen, conductor of Concordia's choirs and the Musical Arts Day high school honor choir.
Julia Gremmer (pictured, above), a senior from New Braunfels, Texas, had a solo during the honor choir's performance of "Amazing Grace."
"It was a learning experience," Gremmer said. "Dr. von Kampen was really wonderful and helped me with it. It was a blessing to be able to sing with all these wonderful voices."
Gremmer's brother Jacob also participated as a member of the honor choir and he took the stage as a soloist on the guitar.
